4 Holiday Prep Tips from Basic Invite

Can you believe the holidays are almost here? We have about five weeks until Thanksgiving and then it’s Christmas season! I’ve felt stressed the past few years surrounding the holidays, so this year I’m trying to plan ahead so I can actually enjoy this time with my kids and family! But how can we effectively do this? Our friends at Basic Invite have given us some amazing holiday prep tips. And as a parent, I know you will appreciate it! So without further ado, I’ll let Sierra take it from here!

With the holiday season fast approaching, there’s a lot to get done. Between shopping for gifts, going to parties, and seeing family members, your October to December schedule is bound to be packed. Here are some tips to help you handle the upcoming holidays with ease.

1. Set Your Priorities

Tip one is to decide what your priorities are in the upcoming months, and be firm with those priorities. Are you super excited to see family? Or is Christmas shopping the biggest thing you want to get done? Do you want to go to a bunch of get-togethers with friends? Choose one or two things that you know you want to do, and make sure you get them done. There’s a lot of stress during the holidays, and people may ask more of you than you can give. If someone needs a favor that conflicts with one of your priorities, just say you can’t help them with that. Your priorities need to come first, especially at the most stressful time of year.

2. Budget Your Money

Another idea is to make sure you budget your money before the holidays. It’s easy to spend a bunch of extra money on food and outfits for parties and on gifts for everyone. Don’t fall into that trap! You’ll end up making a New Year’s resolution to get out of credit card debt. Not a bad resolution, of course, but you don’t need to make it harder by racking up debt right before the new year. If you happen to go over your budget, don’t panic. It happens to the best of us. The point of a budget is to help you control your spending. As long as you are in control of what you’re buying, you don’t need to panic about going a little over. Just avoid going way outside your spending limits.

3. Plan Your Holiday Cards

A third tip is to get your holiday cards and gifts taken care of sooner rather than later. Make a shopping list and start looking for holiday gifts now. Maybe you’ll find something great for someone on your list on your next trip to Walmart or Target. And if you want to send out holiday cards, start planning what pictures you want to use and get them ordered soon. I love Basic Invite’s Christmas cards and holiday cards. They have a bunch of different designs to choose from. Be sure to send our your cards soon, that way your friends and family will be able to keep them on the fridge for a few weeks before the holidays are over.

4. Take Time for Yourself

Lastly, make sure you take time for yourself this holiday season. With everything you need to get done, you may forget to take care of your needs. And everyone needs a little quiet time. Meditation, coloring, taking a walk, or eating a healthy snack are all great ways to give yourself the attention you need. Even if it’s for just five or ten minutes a day, stop and take a breather. You’ll feel much better after you do.

Good luck with everything this holiday season! Remember to take care of yourself, order gifts and holiday cards in advance, budget your money, and prioritize. Happy holidays!
