Audrey’s Winnie the Pooh First Birthday Party

Transforming their winter home decor into the fictional land of the Hundred Acre Wood, Audrey’s Winnie the Pooh first birthday party was celebrated. Mom Megan is the owner of Locklane Weddings & Events so no detail was left behind. Classic pooh characters nestled into the home along with wooden accents and greenery to boot. Little Audrey looked adorable as she spent the day with those that love her most and we think these photos by Lemons and Basil will prove her party was as sweet as honey!

Tell us all about the planning for the birthday party!

Megan: Audrey’s birthday is right after all the major holidays and makes a planning a party just a touch harder. It seems like everyone is partied out after New Years Eve! We were also traveling and arrived home just in time for the new year, so we wanted to push it out. We planned it for a Saturday a week after her actual birthday and with just enough buffer for all of our friends to gather after a lot of family time!

What was the theme for the birthday party? Did you choose it or did your child?

Megan: When I was designing Audrey’s nursery, I decided to incorporate some bears, including Winnie the Pooh. Growing up, my nickname from my dad was “pooh” (I really can’t tell you why as I don’t know myself!) and I attended Baylor, where our mascot was a bear. So it was a very personal animal to choose! And when it came time for Audrey’s first birthday, I quickly settled on a classic Winnie the Pooh. It was actually a bit challenging to source quality classic Pooh stuffed animals and decor. I really did not want any red! With her birthday being in the dead of winter, turning our house from Christmas to the Hundred Acre Wood, seemed like an obvious choice. We kept up a few trees and just removed the decorations. I really loved the outcome. I made the front door signs from cardboard left over from Christmas gifts (and Amazon orders). Southern Events had the perfect display for our hunny buns – Pooh’s favorite snack.

Did you do a cake smash? What was the cake flavor and what did your child do when you presented him/her with the cake?

Megan: The main cake was a double chocolate from Triple Crown Bakery and it was divine. Poor Audrey’s smash cake was a homemade, standard vanilla. It took a few tries as I have apparently lost any skills at piping! I had to give up my piping efforts and let’s just say I have a potential entry photo for NailedIt!

Were there any games or activities at the party?

Megan: Since Audrey has an older sister and most of her little friends are older, I wanted to have a few activities. In Rabbit’s garden, they were able to decorate mini clay pots with stickers and markers. There were coloring sheets, which were the most popular. And we had pin the tail on Eeyore (a free download!).

What are some fun memories you’ve had of your child at this age?

Megan: I love having two girls. Audrey is finally at the age where she can play with Ellery and it is so sweet to watch them interact. They are so completely different! Ellery was born with no hair and now has perfect curls, Audrey was born with a head full of jet black hair and it’s slowly turning a soft nut brown. Audrey is our go-getter. She never wants to stop moving! As soon as she started crawling she was moving so quick it was hard to catch her. She taught herself to climb our stairs. She started walking just before reaching 13 months and probably would have started earlier, but didn’t have the patience to learn when she could crawl so fast. She’s now 15 months and running to keep up with her sister! Her favorite pastime is climbing up onto anything that she probably shouldn’t be on. She is so happy and so stubborn, always wanting things to go her way, not unlike her parents so I can’t blame her there!

What are you looking forward to in this next year of their life?

Megan: We are really looking forward to her talking more. She can say an appropriate amount of words, but typically refuses to say any words and will just attempt what she wants to do herself. For example, if she’s done eating she will just try to crawl out of her high chair! There are definitely more hi-jinx in our future.

So adorable and absolutely perfect! Thanks so much to Megan for sharing Audrey’s Winnie the Pooh first birthday party with us!
