I was thrilled when Emily sent over the photos of her newborn Nathan! We featured Emily’s Maternity Shoot this past summer, and now we have the Smeykal family Nashville newborn photos with baby Nathan! Rebecca Denton Photography captured this little guy so well! His sweet room and mama and daddy are oh so precious! Keep reading more of Emily’s birth story below!
Tell us all about your new baby, Nathan!
Emily: Nathan is such a good baby! He is only ever upset when he is hungry, hot or gassy! He is the sweetest and so patient. He loves to stare at fans and goes right to sleep when I sing to him – not sure if that means my voice is good or bad, ha! He loves car rides and walks around the neighborhood. He has the best head of hair!
How was your pregnancy?
Emily: My pregnancy was really wonderful other than the swelling once it was hot outside! No major complications. You can see by the amount of hair on Nathan’s head how much heartburn I had, though, ha!
Tell us about Nathan’s birth!
Emily: We were induced and from induction to when he arrived, it took 8.5 hours. An hour and a half of that was pushing that big ol’ baby out! We delivered at Centennial Women’s and loved our nurses! Nathan was born at 2:34 PM on Wednesday, August 28, 2019. He weighed 9 pounds 11 ounces and measured 22 inches long!
How have you been doing since he came into your life?
Emily: We are two months in now so finally getting into a good routine and rhythm! Breastfeeding was difficult at first as we learned and are still learning that beautiful process but he’s gaining weight well and is a big boy! Any moms trying out breastfeeding, stick with it and ask all the questions to make sure you feel good about it! Nathan is starting to sleep in at least 8.5 hour stretches at night so mom and dad are happy and more rested now! He just got his shots so we can finally start going out in public more and showing Nathan more of Nashville and the world!
Did you have a vision for the newborn session?
Emily: I actually didn’t have a vision other than I knew I wanted new photos of our precious son and our new family in our home and in the nursery I worked so hard on! I also wanted to make sure our boxer mix, Lila, was included!
What was it like working with Rebecca Denton Photography?
Emily: Rebecca is a dream and I adore working with her on weddings so we knew we had to have her for our newborn photos. She is so patient and flexible but so knowledgeable to help prepare you for your session since you are sleep-deprived new parents! She came with ideas for poses but also captured perfect unstaged shots like when my husband was holding our son in front of a window with great lighting!
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your session or Nathan?
Emily: Kids grow up so fast so make sure you get professional photos of them while they are young and little!
