We’ve got a REEL good post for you today! Due to his love of fishing, Samuel celebrated o’FISH’ally being one with a fish birthday party from Romance and Rust. Not only are the details of the event noteworthy, but also super clever and filled with charm! We’re talking a fish and chip display of gold fish and assorted chips, Samuel’s bait made of gummy worms, and sweetest dessert designs. We could go on and on about the cuteness, but these pictures say more than we have words for! Enjoy seeing this darling day below!
Tell us all about the planning for the birthday party!
Kathy: Little boy’s birthday parties are so much fun and I absolutely love this theme! The party was held outdoors and hosted by his parents at their home north of Nashville. Vintage minnow buckets and thermoses, as well as old railroad lanterns, became a part of the centerpieces. Wood slices, birchwood candle holders, curly willow and fern added to the outdoorsy elements. Large glass cylinders depicted a lake scene of a little boy’s fishing dreams. The food offerings were kept simple and fun with hamburgers and hotdogs with all the fixin’s, and of course, “Fish and Chips”. Fish netting, bobber garland, and fishmonger boxes added to the scene. My favorite is the “Gone Fishing” cake and dessert table. Wood slices and galvanized stands displayed the water blue cakes and cupcakes and a small bucket held the gummy worm “bait”. A small fishing creel showed off the catch of the day.
What was the theme for the birthday party?
Kathy: Samuel is O’FISH’ally ONE!! Samuel is all boy and absolutely loves the outdoors. He also loves to go fishing with his Pop and his parents, something they have always loved to do as a family. In fact, he now always spits in the fish’s mouth for good luck…a passed down tradition.
Did you do a cake smash? What was the cake flavor and what did Samuel do when you presented him with the cake?
Kathy: Samuel’s Aunt Melissa made the cake and smash cake, both were vanilla. He pretty much immediately went in face first!! And he ate almost the entire cake! The highchair is a family heirloom, as this was the same highchair that belonged to Samuel’s dad.
Were there any games or activities at the party?
Kathy: His birthday is in the middle of summer, therefore it always HOT in the south! A couple of kiddie pools, better known as Samuel’s watering hole, was the perfect spot to cool off in the summer time heat.
Did Samuel receive any gifts that were special to him?
Kathy: Samuel’s Uncle Luc gave him a pair of Navy crocks because he leaving soon to report for service. Thank you for your service Uncle Luc!!
What are some fun memories you’ve had of Samuel at this age?
Kathy: From Najmeh, his mom, “Watching him grow and his personality develop. The closer he got to his first birthday, the more he started acting exactly like Daddy.”
Is there anything else you’d like to share about Samuel’s birthday?
Kathy: Samuel got his very first haircut by his Aunt Melissa on his birthday , another milestone, so he would look handsome for all his photos. Samuel’s parents were also my past Bride and Groom. 🙂 It’s such an honor to continue to be a part of this family’s life celebrations!
