Tell us about Tennessee Family Doulas! How long have you been in business?
Larken: Tennessee Family Doulas have been empowering new parents through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum stages since 2015. Specializing in childbirth education, labor support, postpartum support, and placenta encapsulation, Tennessee Family Doulas provide calm and comfort to new families. In 2019, Founder and Doula, Tanya Grabbe, gained the Lifetime Certification from the Prodoula organization which proves the dedication and commitment to families in Middle Tennessee by Tennessee Family Doulas.
What made you want to work with parents and kids?
Larken: Tennessee Family Doulas knows that birth and new babies bring excitement and a touch of anxiety and we want to celebrate and support you as you settle into your new role as parents. Many of us are parents ourselves and understand the support needed before, during, and after birth.
What is the philosophy behind Tennessee Family Doulas?
Larken: We simply want parents to feel supported, to not feel alone, to understand someone is there with them if they need something. Whether that’s sleep, encouragement, or community.
What are your strengths compared to other doulas?
Larken: As experts in the birth field, we are trained, certified, insured and reliable because we know just how important this life blessing is to the family. We have committed our lives to bettering birth and easing couples into parenthood. Our clients benefit from the extensive experience and knowledge we have accumulated throughout our careers.
What attracts parents to work with Tennessee Family Doulas?
Larken: We try to provide calm and comfort to parents and we believe that really resonates with them, makes them feel comfortable with us, and leads them to becoming clients. We genuinely care about the families and their birth experience.
What are some cool new and innovative trends you’ve seen in doula services?
Larken: We stay on top of all of the new certifications and trending products or services. For example, we’ve seen a rise in the importance and sharing for tummy time and how that affects long term development, so we were recently TummyTime Method certified to be sure we are giving our families the best service possible when they ask about new trending or innovative techniques.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about Tennessee Family Doulas?
Larken: We’ve also built, what we call, a birth community in the Nashville and Williamson County area. If someone wants a recommendation for acupuncture or prenatal yoga or chiropractor for infants, we can give those suggestions because we personally know these people. We believe a birth community is so important for new parents, especially if they don’t have family support in the area. We are here for them and we care. We also put on a Baby Fair in Franklin, TN, called Bump To Baby, to further that community feeling and to help new parents or those with babies connect with businesses with products or services that they may find helpful. We have amazing guest speakers talking about all things pregnancy and baby as well as giveaways and tons of fun!
