Amy’s Mommy + Me Photo Session by Kristen Rue Photography

This precious Mama of five, Amy, was so excited to bring her fifth baby into the world – a boy named Adam! He’s the first man of the siblings with four older sisters to look up to. And you can totally see he’s owning it already in these beautiful photos by Kristen Rue Photography! See our interview with Amy below to learn more about her life as a mom of five.

Tell us all about your family!

Amy: My husband and I are high school sweethearts and Nashville natives, as were our parents and grandparents before them. We’ve pretty much been here forever, so it was only natural for us to move back here after college at UT Knoxville. We have been married for 15 years and are living the dream in a farmhouse we built on a farm north of town with our 5 fantastic children – 4 girls ages 12, 10, 6, and 4, and the little “bub,” who we named Adam because he is our first man. I stay home with the kiddos and run a wedding floral business. When my husband isn’t chasing around our crazy cows he works his real job in a high rise downtown.

Why did you decide to do the shoot now?

Amy: With five children, I don’t get very much one-on-one time with any of them so I try to be intentional about the time we do get share. I already had Kristen Rue Photography shoot some newborn Mommy-and-Me shots, but when Adam was a few months older I wanted to capture his bright eyes, energy, and curiosity – things you don’t get to see as easily in a sleepy, snuggly little newborn. I really wanted to document our interaction with one another because that precious mother-child-connection is so palpable. I want Adam to be able to see and feel this very special love when he is a grown man. I want him to be able to see how close and connected we have been from the very beginning. It’s such a blessing to live in this age with such easy access to talented professionals who can capture this precious moments for posterity. That’s the power of photography. It’s beautiful.

What was the concept for your shoot? What was your vision?

Amy: I just wanted some really sweet pics with my newest little love. Capturing the bond is all I was after, so really left the rest of the “vision” up to Kristen- she’s the artist! She chose the setting and gave gave me some direction on what kind of clothing to bring. I showed up with a couple of options. It’s pretty magical the way she puts it all together.

How did Adam react during the photo shoot?

Amy: Adam, the little man-cub, was remarkably happy for most of the shoot. He is like his daddy, and generally has a great disposition and is very friendly, so he’s pretty quick to smile. Kristen is excellent with kids, and so patient, which is extra-helpful when you are trying to capture your most special moments. Professional pictures can be a big investment, which is why we love Kristen! We’ve certainly had our share of tearful photo shoots, but the shots she snags are nothing short of incredible! Thankfully this shoot with the little bub was pretty breezy!

Were there any challenges along the way?

Amy: Well, Adam was pretty interested in the blackberry bush we were shooting in front of. It was all we could do to keep him from grabbing the thorny branches.

What was it like working with Kristen Rue Photography?

Amy: As I mentioned earlier, working with Kristen is really a dream. She has talent and skill, patience and personality. She’s very witty and fun to be around, and has this amazing ability to make everyone look (and feel) photogenic. She’s also a hard worker. There have been shoots when I will say, “it’s okay, you don’t have to walk through the mud all the way to the back of the field. This spot over here will be good enough.” To which she will firmly respond, “no ma’am, we are going to get that amazing light!” And through the muck we go! And you know, she hasn’t been wrong yet. She’s knows how to get those amazing shots.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your photo session?

Amy: I know it can be easy to procrastinate when it comes to scheduling professional pictures, but I really would encourage everyone to do it as often as you can – especially when your babies are little. Children grow and change so quickly! Sometimes is hard to remember the curve of their chubby cheek, or their tiny hands, or their sweet little lashes. I also want to encourage the Mommas to get in those pictures! Your babies will want to see you (yes you!) with all of your perfect imperfections, young and totally in love with them.

Thank you so much to Amy for sharing her story with Adam. And to Kristen Rue Photography for sharing the beautiful photos with us!
