Cornelius Family Photo Session by SheHeWe Family Photography

Documenting those family photos are priceless. And The Cornelius family knows how important that is. They have booked family photos with Ilde of SheHeWe Family Photography for the past 8 years! Keep reading our interview below with Mom Kate as she explains why Fall is the best time of year for her family to be photographed and what it’s been like to get all of the kids to cooperate for the session. It’s all below!

Tell us all about your family!

Kate: We are a family of five. Myself (Kate), my husband Jon and our three kids… 10 year-old Asher, 8 year-old Declan, and a 5 year-old Everyn. Our house is full of activity and noise and our yard is full of bikes, scooters, sports equipment and nerf bullets. Jon and I feel like we are definitely in a sweet spot in life right now. Our kids all still think we’re cool and want to spend time with us, so we try to take advantage of every opportunity we can to spend time as a family.

Why did you decide to do the shoot now?

Kate: Ilde has been shooting our family yearly for the past eight years. The first shoot was in the fall and so we just kept doing it around the same time every year. It became a way for us to mark our family’s growth and get some photos of the three of us, then the four of us and finally, the five of us. I have to say I love having the shoots in the fall. It’s not hot, so no sweaty faces/cranky family and the leaves are so beautiful.

What was the concept for your shoot? What was your vision?

Kate: We had the shoot at our house. (We are huge fans of having our family shoots outside.) We are not very formal people but we wanted a few posed photos of us looking as put together as we could as a family :). After that, we wanted Ilde to capture our kids ‘in their element.’ Running around, swinging, playing, wrestling, etc. We know when they are playing together there will always be lots of laughter and fun. Ilde encouraged this kind of shoot the first time we met her, eight years ago. We are so thankful she did. We have been doing it like that ever since and we all love looking back at the photos over the years, seeing how everyone has grown and changed and laughing at how goofy we all are.

How did your kids react during the photo shoot?

Kate: The shoot was so laid back. The kids didn’t know there was a plan and for the posed photos Ilde never needed the kids to stay in one place for more than probably 30 seconds so they never got antsy. The kids lived for when Ilde brought out the whoopee cushion and acted silly and told jokes.

Were there any challenges along the way?

Kate: I don’t know if I would call them challenges but our biggest concerns are always.. 1. Will the weather cooperate? and 2. Can I keep the boys’ shirts tucked in and knees from getting muddy until we get those first few family shots out of the way?

What was it like working with your photographer?

Kate: We love Ilde. She is magic. We all look forward to her coming every year. I know she has a plan and shots in mind but I have no idea what they are and she doesn’t ever concern us with those details. I also know she loves to just let moments unfold naturally and see where they take the shoot. She encourages us to be ourselves and be in the moment as a family so she can capture us. And she does. Beautifully. The images of us are always gorgeous. It’s not just the lighting, background, etc., She has a way of capturing everyone’s spirit. Especially the kids. Like I said. Ilde is magic.

This family is adorable! Thank you so much to Kate and the Cornelius family for sharing their photos and story! And to Ilde of SheHeWe Family for the beautiful photos!
