In-home Newborn Portrait Session by Kristie Lloyd Photography | Nashville Baby Guide

A Dreamy, Light-filled, In-Home Newborn Portrait Session

The cheeks, the feet, the adorable baby smirks — today’s feature is filled with it all. Baby Gunner posed perfectly in front of the camera for a dreamy, light-filled, in-home newborn portrait session. With the bright and cheerful glow in each room, we can’t think of a more perfect setting to document Gunner than this one. Whether he was captured solo, with mom and dad, or even with his fur siblings, every images was documented with such ease thanks to Kristie Lloyd Photography. Enjoy the cuteness below!

From the photographer, Kristie: This was an absolute dream session! This East Nashville family welcomed their first baby boy in early January. We spent 75% of our session time shooting in baby’s light-filled and beautifully decorated nursery. We also used the master bedroom to incorporate the rest of the family (their fur babies).

Tell us all about your new baby!

Hannah: Gunner is beyond wonderful! He’s such a happy baby and loves to snuggle on your shoulder. He has the sweetest chubby cheeks and most beautiful steel blue eyes. We’ve been reading him his black and white books and Brown Bear, both of which he loves! He doesn’t like tummy time (what baby does?!), but he’s getting so strong. His dog sisters aren’t too sure about him yet, but are slowly warming up to him. He has been such a blessing and are so glad he’s finally here!

How was your pregnancy?

Hannah: Early on, I was fairly sick, which had Blake convinced Gunner was going to be a girl. I had a maternal instinct the whole time that he was a boy, and was thrilled when the cannons shot out blue! We celebrated baby Gunner with family and friends with COVID safe baby showers, including a drive-by shower and a virtual shower. The second trimester was a breeze and I really enjoyed being pregnant. I craved hot chocolate and french fries, but was eating almost everything put in front of me (except chicken!). Towards the end of pregnancy, we were walking the dogs every day in the freezing temperatures in an attempt to get things moving. Gunner was due on his dad’s birthday, but couldn’t wait to make his big arrival and came a few days early!

Tell us about his birth!

Hannah: I was in denial that I was in labor so Blake was very nervous when contractions got down to 3 minutes. I insisted we eat before we leave, so we ordered several pizzas (WAY too many for two people) so I could have a variety for my last meal before we left. We got to the hospital at around 9pm Friday night, but didn’t have Gunner until 5:29pm on Saturday. Labor was long and challenging with a few scary complications at the end, but Gunner was worth it! We had the most wonderful medical team that got him here safely, including our nurse, who was a friend who I played soccer with in high school who I hadn’t seen in 15 years – it’s a small world! The first time we heard him cry and finally got to hold him was the best moment of my life.

How have you been doing since he came into your life?

Hannah: Other than being a bit more tired these days, we’ve been doing great! We had both grandmothers visit over the first few weeks home which was a godsend. They helped with cooking and cleaning and showing us the ropes. Now that it’s just the three of us, we’re just learning as we go. Our home is filled with so much love and we can’t wait to watch Gunner grow up.

Did you have a vision for the newborn session?

Hannah: We were hoping for a bright and whimsical session. Thankfully, the weather cooperated and the sun brought in the perfect amount of light to the nursery and our bedroom. We also really wanted photos with our two dogs, but they were so excited that they didn’t behave very well. The candid shots almost made for better pictures though!

What was it like working with your photographer?

Hannah: Kristie is a genius! She worked magic with the lighting and created the exact look we were hoping for. She was able to capture Gunner’s adorable lip pursing and sweet smirk. Gunner did not want to nap during the session and wanted to be awake for all of the action! Kristie is a baby whisperer and was able to lull him to sleep (the heater helped too!). She was great with him throughout the entire session! We were so happy with how she truly captured our love for baby Gunner and each other.

It doesn’t get much better than these moments! Thanks so much to mom, dad, and Kristie Lloyd Photography for sharing Gunner’s dreamy, light-filled, in-home newborn portrait session with us.
