Can you tell us a little bit about the birthing process at Williamson Medical Center?
When you choose to have your baby with Williamson Health at Williamson Medical Center, you can feel confident you’ll be getting the best care possible for both you and your child. In every case, we first and foremost respect our patient’s wishes and work with them to achieve the outcome they desire. We strive to provide a 1-on-1 nurse-to-patient ratio with laboring patients, and our award-winning team is well-equipped for high-risk births – including multiples and births with complications – so you can trust that you and your baby are in great hands.
What should parents do to prepare for birth before their time with Williamson Health?
Childbirth classes are a great way to prepare for the birth of a child. But, most importantly, talk with your doctor during your prenatal appointments and ask questions during that time. Additionally, taking a tour will help you become familiar with the spaces in which you will be delivering and recovering. That way when the time comes, you’ve had a chance to ask the questions on your mind and the chance to think through things like “How do I get there,” “Where do we park,” and “Where do I go once inside?”

Take us through the step-by-step process on what the mother will do once she has arrived to give birth at Williamson Medical Center.
The first step is to register at either the registrar outside our unit at the Boyer-Bryan West Tower entrance, or with the Emergency Room registration team if it’s after hours. Once you’re in our unit, you will be showed to your room, where the admission process will start with one of our nurses. This is a great time to talk about your wishes during your labor, delivery and postpartum time.
While in labor or during a C-section, what can mothers expect from the Williamson Health staff?
We treat each of our patients with respect and compassion throughout the entirety of their stay. Each member of our team serves as an advocate and additional support person for you during the birth process. We are happy to answer any questions that might arise, and we are also happy to take as much time needed to help educate patients and/or support people when necessary to make sure everyone is as comfortable and confident as possible.
If it is determined that your baby needs additional assistance after delivery, we have neonatal nurse practitioners in-house 24/7, along with respiratory therapists and our wonderful NICU nurses. The NICU is located on the same floor as the labor and postpartum units, so mom and baby can remain close to one another during their stay.

After the baby is born, how is Williamson Health there for the mother and the baby?
We offer couple care for mom and baby, allowing for one nurse to care for both mom and baby as a unit. This includes lactation support, which is available seven days a week into the evening hours. Because it’s so important to, discharge education starts at admission and continues without the entirety of your stay so that our new parents feel equipped to go home and take care of their newborn when the time comes.
