Many mamas to be decide to forego a maternity session. However, for some mamas like Katherine (and me!), decide to do a shoot at at the last minute! She and her family played and smiled to welcome their new little addition to the family with Becka Edmsonson Photography capturing every moment – all at 37 weeks! Tell us about yourself + your family!
Katherine: Ryan and I have been married for 11 years. He’s a project manager at HCA and he’s my best friend! Elliot will turn 5 in June. He loves to play monopoly with Daddy and stay in his pj’s all day. Emma is 2 years old and loves to be with momma at all times and do everything that brother does! I am a marriage and family therapist and have a private practice. I love being a mom and I love working with families and helping them heal. We love Jesus and living life.
What was the moment like when you found out you were pregnant?
Katherine: I went to the walk in clinic because I thought I had strep throat. The doctor came into the room and told me strep was negative, however the pregnancy test was positive. I was overcome with emotion and reached out to hug the doctor. He thought I was weird. 馃檪 I was so incredibly grateful. I drove to our local Carter’s and bought a big brother t-shirt.
How did you announce you were pregnant to your family/friends?
Katherine: My husband was giving my first born a bath. I told him I laid out pajamas for him in his room. When he went to dress Elliot he put his big brother shirt on. They were laughing and giggling and when my husband read the t-shirt he got real quiet…then said, “what”?!
How has your pregnancy been so far?
Katherine: 1st trimester: I threw up 15 x a day. 馃檪 2nd trimester: I threw up about 10 x a day. 馃檪 3 trimester: I felt awesome. I was tired, but loved being pregnant. I loved nesting, preparing for the baby, preparing Elliot for being a big brother.
How far along are you in the maternity photos?
Katherine: Too far! Becka came to my baby shower and convinced to get photos. I’m SO glad she did! I think I was 37 weeks pregnant.
What was it like during the shoot working with Becka Edmonson?
Katherine: Oh my gosh, she was incredible! She was patient with us and especially Elliot. She came prepared with toys to get Elliot to laugh and smile. She was so encouraging and complimentary. It was such a fun experience and I am SO grateful I have a picture of me being pregnant. Such a cherished gift.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your maternity shoot?
Katherine: I’m just so grateful I have photos to look back on to remember such a hard and beautiful time. It can seem so long yet it goes so fast. But just a reminder how beautiful life is. That as moms, no matter what we’re doing it!
