Tell us about Makeup by Katie-Laine Thornton and how long you’ve been in business!
Katie-Laine: I’m a makeup artist + hairstylist and I’ve been in the business for about 16 years! I worked for MAC for 10 years, taught a makeup academy at Paul Mitchell, and then started doing freelance full-time about 4 years ago. I now work full-time on weddings, photoshoots, album covers, commercials, etc. and I love it!
What made you want to work with moms + families?
Katie-Laine: I am a mama to a 5 year old little boy and the transition to motherhood really rocked my world, in every way possible! I really love working with mamas on their maternity sessions and family sessions because it’s such an important, transformative time. I think it’s so special for you to have great photos of yourself and your family to capture it. I also strongly believe that it’s not even about how you look, it’s about how you feel and I really love helping mamas and mamas-to-be feel like the amazing women that they are!
What is the philosophy behind Makeup by Katie-Laine Thornton?
Katie-Laine: I want my company to always be approachable and inclusive. I also want to always be doing this business with integrity.
What are your strengths compared to other makeup artists?
Katie-Laine: I think my experience in the industry and specifically, with makeup for photography, is one of my greatest strengths. I also am really dedicated to helping people feel beautiful in whatever way feels authentic for them. I don’t believe in a “one size fits all” approach to much of anything. My goal is to make sure you feel like yourself and also to make sure you photograph beautifully.
