Spring Smith Park Maternity Session by Rebecca Denton Photography

Flowers and trees were blossoming as a baby was in bloom in this spring Smith Park maternity session by Rebecca Denton Photography that is so dreamy. Having worked with the Nashville photographer for her engagement and wedding, mom-to-be Amberly knew she had to have Rebecca document this chapter too! Unsure of how the shoot would be with the pandemic occurring during the scheduled time, these light and airy images are undoubtably so serene and peaceful to look at with Amberly and her husband displaying such a cheerful glow. See why we’re loving this golden hour photoshoot in the stunning photos below!

Tell us about you guys as a couple/family!

Amberly: My husband and I met when we both worked for the same department at Nissan Headquarters! He likes to joke and say “I stole his job”- which is not true, but allowed us to talk about our shared work. We started dating and were engaged in the Smokey Mountains 2 years later! We were married in 2017 (with our wedding featured on Nashville Bride Guide!) We live in Murfreesboro and we just welcomed our first baby- Landon Ellis Hayes and are soaking up every minute of time with him!

What was the moment like when you found out you were pregnant?

Amberly: I thought for sure I was not pregnant and already told my husband we were not pregnant that month. My best friend (also a 3x mom and Labor and Delivery Nurse) encouraged me to take another test and SURPRISE! I was very wrong! My husband was ecstatic and so was I!

How did you announce you were pregnant to your family/friends?

Amberly: We knew about 6-7 weeks before telling our parents! It was the longest 6 weeks! We told my parent’s on my mom’s birthday by giving her a “birthday gift” of baby onesie’s saying that their first grandchild would be here in the Spring! My mom screamed at the top of her lungs and my dad immediately starting planning a trip in his mind to Disney World! We told the rest of our families on Thanksgiving and announced the gender on Christmas with our families! While COVID did put a damper on the baby showers that were planned, my friends and family made sure to go above and beyond with what they were able to do. I had a “virtual” baby shower that my girlfriends coordinated, complete with my mom setting up some decorations and opening presents virtually. My family threw a “drive by” baby shower with the cutest decoration as well as making everyone feel safe in their cars. Nothing about a “pandemic pregnancy” was normal, but it we felt so, so loved!

How has your family reacted to your pregnancy?

Amberly: We told our extended family on Thanksgiving and the response was overwhelming. What a sweet time when everyone is reflecting on what they are thankful for to announce that our biggest blessing was going to join us in the Spring. We later announced on Christmas the gender and we would be welcoming a baby boy! It was truly a great holiday season that I will never forget.

How has your pregnancy been so far?

Amberly: The pregnancy was great! I did not experience any morning sickness which was easy to hide from my work teams until I announced it! Going into the 3rd trimester was the same time that I transitioned to WFH due to COVID-19. Spending my last trimester at home was such a silver lining in the pandemic situation. How many women can say they rode out their 3rd trimester on the couch? It allowed for a lot of rest time and a lot of time to prep our sweet boy’s nursery and prepare for him to come home.

How far along are you in the maternity photos?

Amberly: I was 35 weeks in our maternity photos!

How did you come up with your concept/location for your photos?

Amberly: Rebecca Denton has been our photographer through our engagement, wedding and now for our maternity photos welcoming our sweet Landon! When we scheduled this photoshoot, we were both unsure if it was going to happen. With COVID restrictions in full swing, all public and state parks were closed. They announced the reopening of parks RIGHT before our photoshoot and I couldn’t have been happier. Rebecca suggested Smith Park in Brentwood because she knew my love for tall grass and light and airy sunsets!

What was it like during the shoot working with the photographer?

Amberly: We were familiar with Rebecca and her style, so it didn’t take long to get re-acclimated with her. Rebecca knows about all the good spots to shoot in the park. She and I share the love of light and airy images and she knew exactly how to chase the golden hour sun all over the park. Being 35 weeks pregnant, I think it’s natural to not feel exactly your best, but after each image that Rebecca took, she would say how beautiful the shot looked. That made me feel at ease knowing we were going to get some good shots!

Amberly these are beautiful! And congratulations on your little bundle of joy! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your spring Smith Park maternity session by Rebecca Denton Photography with us!
