How old is Vander?
Karlie: 1
Tell us all about the planning for his birthday party!
Karlie: We were throwing around a few different ideas but none of them seemed right. Most of the themes seemed overdone until we stumbled across a couple images that sparked the idea for Vander’s First Gig. The rest of the details then just came to me. I knew I wanted to have a modern take on the rock and roll theme with the majority of everything being black and white. Once I found a few of the decor items, it all started to come together and I really got a vision for the set up. Due to covid, we kept the first hour to grandparents and aunts and uncles then the second hour we had close friends and extended family participate in a drive by/ safe interaction and photo opp with the birthday boy.
What was the theme for the birthday party? Did you choose it or did your child?
Karlie: The theme was Vander’s First Gig. We chose the theme because he was born in music city and loves music. Plus our family loves 80’s rock bands and all different kinds of genres.
Did you do a cake smash? What was the cake flavor and what did your child do when you presented him/her with the cake?
Karlie: Yes! It was our family’s homemade chocolate cake recipe that has been in our family for generations. Vander is usually a go getter and pretty aggressive but he was more gentle when we presented the cake. He ran his hands through the frosting and stared in shock that we had put the whole cake on his tray. We then laid down a cover and moved it to the ground so he could have a little more fun with the cake, attacking it with a spatula.
Were there any games or activities at the party?
Karlie: We were trying to keep it covid friendly so it was not the longest party. We did pictures with the birthday boy, food, smash cake, then presents. For the first hour we did close family like the grandparents and aunts and uncles. Then the second hour we invited some close friends and extended family for a drive by/ quick interaction with the birthday boy.
Did your child receive any gifts that were special to him?
Karlie: Vander received his **first guitar**. He absolutely loves it when his dada plays to him so we thought it would be special if he had his own little one to play alongside him.
What are some fun memories you’ve had of your child at this age?
Karlie: We have really enjoyed watching his determination for walking, climbing the stairs, and many other activities. He is our little go getter and has no fear. He loves grabbing on to curtain rods as we support him and pretending to do pull ups. He also enjoys wrestling with his dada and singing along to music. We also love watching him discover new things for the first time through his eyes. He is such a curious and happy little man.
What are you looking forward to in this next year of their life?
Karlie: We look forward to continue to watch him develop his little voice and grow. He has brought us so much joy thus far and we cannot wait to see how much joy he continues to bring us as he turns into a little boy.
So adorable! Thanks Karlie for sharing Vander’s rock and roll first birthday party with us!
