Tell us about Little Art House! How long have you been in business?

Emma & Leighton: We’re in our fifth school year and can’t wait to begin our sixth summer season! It’s been a crazy few years as we’ve grown and we continue to learn more about running our dream business every day though our focus has remained the same. Growing up in Columbia, Tennessee, with an art teacher as our mother, we always practiced creativity & imagination in our house. Every summer and school holiday, we spent hours painting, drawing, making playdough, creating found object collages, and much more. While we played, we were encouraged to reflect on our experiences in art-making to increase curiosity and grow intellectually. These warm memories of risk and reward fueled by imagination are what motivated us to create the Little Art House. We hope to provide inviting opportunities for people to imagine, explore, and create in a comfortable, encouraging environment just like we had growing up!

What made you want to work with parents/families/kids/babies?

Emma & Leighton: As teachers in the public school system for years, we saw access to art and funding of the programs start to dwindle. We also saw a need for small, personalized class environments offering consistent classes for students of varying ages with qualified teachers. At Little Art House, we are set up as a resource in the Nashville area to grow with your child from mini makers classes to young artists and beyond.

What is the philosophy behind Little Art House?

Emma & Leighton: OUR MISSION is to cultivate a learning environment for people of all ages to imagine, explore and create. OUR VISION is to bring creative opportunities to artists of all ages and levels across Tennessee.

What are your strengths compared to others in your category?

Emma & Leighton: Because we’re small, we’re able to really connect with all our students on a personal level. We also have honed the structure of class schedules to best suit the ages for each class.

What attracts parents to work with you?

Emma & Leighton: Our classes are not only a fun activity for the kids to enjoy each week, but they also provide a lot of other benefits as well such as development of fine motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction with students of varying backgrounds.

What are some cool new and innovative trends you’ve seen in your area of expertise?

Emma & Leighton: There are a number of ways you can provide your little ones with creative play at home with found objects around the house! There are a ton of ideas on Pinterest and other websites to spark inspiration for Sensory Bins (which we include in our younger classes each week) but generally, you can also just pull out some items from the kitchen or bathroom (that are baby-safe of course) and let your little one explore, imagine & play! We share some tips and ideas on our social media as well so be sure to follow us.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about Little Art House?

Emma & Leighton: We feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to serve our community in this way and are grateful every day for the support. We are always available to discuss more ways to be involved and provide creative opportunities in our city and beyond. Whether you’re looking for a weekly class, a private class, an adult class, a birthday, or community event please do not hesitate to reach out to us and we will do what we can to provide an experience for you!
